“STUFF” in Knitted Font FREE FILE

26 Apr

Image

Everyone needs a bag to keep their “stuff” in. This file features a knitted font and applique dots. The fabric I used for this particular applique is not fabric at all, but the plastic foil seal that comes on Safari brand coffee.  (Told you I never throw anything away!) You can use any fabric, however.  The file is PES format and fits a 5×7 hoop.

It’s free to use, and you can sell whatever you make with it. Just don’t sell the file itself, or any altered form of it.  Because Karma will get you!

Embroidered Shop Stool: A suprise for my Hubs!

26 Apr

I had to get up early to start this project, so it would be done by the time he gets home from work! I hope he likes it!

So, here is the ugly beast I’m starting with:

Image

I can’t have my Hubs sitting on something like THAT! So, I removed the seat, cut some fabric and embroidered this design from Urban Threads:

Image

There. That’s better! I chose this design because Hubs does pin-striping, with skulls and flames and such, so I thought it “fits” him.

It is a slightly stretchy fabric, so it has a few puckers, but no matter. By the time I stretch it and staple it to the underneath side, it will fit smoothly.  I am also covering the seat with a clear plastic, so it will camouflage any imperfections.

Time to check the fit….

Image

It fits! YAY! All that is left is to figure out how to hook up the air compressor and staple this baby down!
Meanwhile, I’m spray painting the legs with hammered black spray paint. Lucy is “helping”.

Image

Well, I couldn’t find the staples for the staple gun, so stapling will have to wait until after he gets home. So, I taped it on the underneath side and took this photo.

The First Rule of Creativity Is….

NEVER throw anything away!

This gigantic mass of tangled stuff currently adorns the floor of my Happy Room. What is it? It’s the remains of some hideous pink vertical fabric blinds that were on almost every window of our new house when we bought it last fall. (What were they thinking?!) Image

Rather than throw it all in a dumpster, I washed the panels in the washing machine and dried them in the dryer. I didn’t know if I’d open the lid to see a big pile of mush, or not, but they turned out clean and intact!  Now I have a lifetime supply of….Image

…nicely stiff backing for patches, hangtags and ornaments!   YAY!

Here is a Zombie Survival Patch I made for a friend who lives in California, where, apparently zombies are a real problem.

Super Solvy was used for the stabilizer, and I bet you’re wondering what the Sharpie is for? Well, a bit of the white fabric showed through the stitches of the round black border, so I simply used a sharpie to paint those white parts…

Tadaaa!

Yes, I’m a genius and here is why.

24 Apr

All my friends think I’m a genius because of all the fabulous embroidery designs I’m constantly whipping up. But, I’ll let you in on my secret…I get a LOT of my designs from my favorite embroidery design website ever: Urban Threads!

  • I cannot say enough good things about this company. FIrst of all, their designs are Off The Charts as far as sophistication of design.
  • Also, their subject matter is “Not your Granny’s embroidery”, that’s for sure!
  • Customer service is outstanding.
  • Purchasing is way easy and fast, so there are never any hassles there, either.

So, that’s the secret to looking like an embroidery genius. Just buy phenomenal designs by Urban Threads! Easy peasy! Thanks for making me look good, UT!

My Happy Place

24 Apr

Image

Welcome to my sewing room!

To the uncrafty eye, this room may look like it’s a total mess.  But in reality (my reality, that is), it’s perfectly organized and neat. In fact, this is the neatest I think its ever been.  This is where the magic happens, folks!

Red and white polka dots, and aqua blue walls, because “subtle” is my middle name… hehe!  Actually, color inspires me, so the more the better!  My favorite part of this room is my “Wall of Thread”, which I built with my own two hands.  It just makes me happy to look at it every day!

As you can see, my two most used machines are on the countertop: My PE700II Embroidery Machine by Brother, and my Walmart special Project Runway sewing machine.  The embroidery machine has it’s cover off permanently, because I am always digging random threads out of it and oiling it. It’s just easier this way.

The upper shelves will eventually hold all my fabric neatly wrapped on cardboard bolts, and organized by color and type. JUST KIDDING! That will probably never happen. I do have another room full of tubs of fabric to be put on the shelves, and I’ll get to that… but as for being THAT organized…I’m dreaming!
